PLEASE READ
I’m writing from the Kurdish Region in Iraq. I know that the US has a vested interest and loyalty to the KRG (Kurdish Regional Government) and it’s two leading political parties, the PUK and the KDP, but that’s NO excuse to turn a blind eye to the human rights violations happening here. The people want a change in government, and while I know the US probably won’t facilitate that, it can at least try to help stop the violence and the hysteric reaction that the local gov’t and the Asayish (police+intelligence) has taken against it’s own people. Killing, attacking, tear-gassing is wrong. That’s all there is to it. The thing is, no one outside of the region really knows about it because the news barely covers it, or if it does, it doesn’t do so honestly. The only news station that did was bombed, and fired with incendiary devices in the middle of the night.
Independent reporters are the biggest targets and have been attacked, shot, arrested, had their cars bombed, or simply gone missing. PLEASE get the word out. These are human rights violations that are either going unnoticed or are being ignored.
